Google Ads for Tile Contractors: A Plain-English Starter Guide

TileUp Digital Team, November 2, 2026, Google Ads

Google Ads can be one of the most direct ways for a tile contractor to get leads, because you pay to appear when someone is already looking for the work you do. It can also burn through money fast if it is set up loosely.

Start with Search campaigns

Search ads appear when someone types a phrase into Google. Start here, as the intent is clear. Phrases that include a service and a place, such as shower tile installer near a town you serve, tend to show a real need.

Separate your services

Put showers, floors and backsplashes in separate groups, each with its own ads and landing page. This lets you control budgets and see which work is paying off.

Use negative keywords from day one

Negative keywords stop your ads showing for searches you do not want. For tile contractors, common examples include:

  • jobs, careers and hiring
  • DIY, how to and tutorial
  • tile store and tile prices, unless you sell material
  • free, cheap and repair kits, depending on your work

Lock down your location

Set targeting to the areas your crew really serves, and use the setting for people in those locations rather than people interested in them.

Track calls and forms

Without tracking, you are guessing. Set up conversion tracking for forms, and call tracking for phone leads. Then you can judge keywords by the leads they bring rather than by clicks.

Send traffic to a focused page

A landing page that matches the search will usually do better than a homepage. Include project photos, reviews, a phone button and a short form.

Review it every week

Check your search terms report, add negatives, and look at which leads were any good. Small regular changes beat big occasional ones.
